As we look forward to recognising the work of nurses worldwide on International Nurses Day, we are also proud to celebrate a significant milestone for our Abbott Nurse Advisors who have been caring for patients for a quarter of a century.
International Nurses Day is a time to celebrate the incredible dedication and contributions of nurses around the world. Celebrated on May 12th, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, it is an opportunity to recognise and applaud the tireless commitment, compassion and skills that nurses bring to healthcare. Nurses play an invaluable role in improving health outcomes, providing care, comfort and support to patients both in hospital and at home.
September 2025 also happens to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Abbott Nurse Advisor service, adding an extra layer of significance to this year’s celebration. We are proud to commemorate this incredible milestone for our Abbott Nurse Advisors who have been caring for patients for a quarter of a century.
Abbott’s National Nurse Manager, Jackie Swannick, is also celebrating, having been a part of the service from its beginnings back in 2000.
Originally one of a small team of registered nurses taking on the role (at the time referred to as Patient Care Representatives), Jackie and the team delivered comprehensive training in the use of 5 different enteral feeding pumps to patients and healthcare professionals across the UK. Over the years, their clinical role continued to develop and gradually evolved into a specialised enteral feeding service, provided by a team of highly-trained and dedicated professionals.
“One of the biggest challenges we’ve ever faced was, of course, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our team went above and beyond to support our NHS colleagues on the front line. We even provided a bank holiday service, doing everything we could to help facilitate safe discharges and prevent patients from having to be referred to hospital.”

Today, Abbott Nurse Advisors are trusted enteral feeding experts, providing dedicated clinical support in acute and community settings. Working closely with dietitians and NHS colleagues, they deliver compassionate patient care to facilitate safe discharges from hospital. They continue to provide specialised care and support in the community to prevent unnecessary referrals to hospital. The team achieve this by providing expert training for patients and healthcare professionals in all aspects of enteral feeding, alongside troubleshooting and routine monitoring in the community.
In 2024, Abbott Nurse Advisors were responsible for:
Hospital Referrals Prevented
Patient Discharges Facilitated
Significant Patient Contacts/Visits
HCPs Trained
“I’m incredibly proud of our nurse team. They truly put their heart and soul into the service we provide and will always put the patient first. I feel privileged to lead such a compassionate and dedicated team, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the difference they make to so many of our patients, every day.”
