Cancer is a condition where cells in a specific part of the body grow and reproduce uncontrollably. The cancerous cells can invade and destroy surrounding healthy tissue, including organs.1
Patients with cancer often experience disability, fatigue, pain and weakness.2 Moreover, cancer treatment can also have debilitating side effects, including loss of appetite, digestive problems (constipation, diarrhoea), flu-like symptoms, infection, cognitive problems, nausea and vomiting.3
Malnutrition in patients with cancer is common and often gives way to sarcopenia and cachexia (an irreversible wasting of muscle that can occur with or without loss of fat mass).4-6
