LIAM O’MAHONY, PHD

Liam O’Mahony received his BSc in Microbiology from University College Cork and his PhD in Immunology from Trinity College Dublin. He conducted post-doctoral research at University College Cork, & UCLA. He was a Principal Investigator at the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre, University College Cork, from 2003 to 2008 and from 2009 to 2018, he was Head of Molecular Immunology at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research, University of Zürich, Switzerland. Additionally, Liam O’Mahony is Treasurer of EAACI and an Associate Editor of the journal Allergy. His research interests are focused on the molecular basis for microbe & metabolite modulation of mucosal inflammatory responses. In particular, he is investigating the basic mechanisms by which microbes influence allergic sensitisation within the gut, skin, and lungs.
