Abstract:
This educational video explores the role of peptide-based nutrition in improving gastrointestinal (GI) intolerance for patients requiring nutritional intervention due to malnutrition. The video highlights the challenges posed by malnutrition and GI symptoms, which can be exacerbated by chronic illness and impaired gut function. The video explains how peptides offer enhanced absorption and nitrogen balance compared to whole proteins or free amino acids. It also discusses the benefits of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) in peptide-based feeds, which provide rapid energy and improved fat absorption.
Once you have watched this video, please remember to complete your self-reflective notes to contribute towards your continuing professional development. You will then be able to access your Certificate of Completion.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Understand malnutrition and its effects on patient outcomes, GI function, and the cycle of malabsorption.
Recognise management strategies, including ONS and peptide-based nutrition for better absorption and tolerance.
Explain key digestion concepts, including protein versus peptides, peptide transporters, and benefits of MCTs.
