| As shown in a randomised control trial to investigate the effects of a specialised ONS (the UK equivalent product is Ensure Plus Advance) on malnourished, cardiopulmonary patients (≥65 years) vs standard care. Ensure Plus Advance was initiated within 72 h of hospitalisation and continued for 90-days post-discharge. Ensure Plus Advance decreased the risk of mortality at 90 days post-hospital discharge vs standard post-op nutrition (4.8% vs 9.7%; p=0.018), however the study did not observe a significant effect for the primary composite endpoint of non-elective readmission or death.
