Abstract:

Abbott teams around the UK have been taking part in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives within their local communities. In this article, we highlight the Scotland and Northern Ireland team, who got involved at a community kitchen in Dundee.

Abbott teams nationwide continue to support local initiatives as part of Abbott’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). In December 2025, members of the team covering Scotland and Northern Ireland spent a day helping out at the Roundhouse in Dundee, a community kitchen - led by the charity Signpost International - that prepares and distributes around 270 meals per week to local food banks.

The Roundhouse is run by volunteers from the local community, as well as students from the nearby high school and catering college. By collecting surplus food from local shops, farms and allotments, their efforts not only provide food for people in need, but also minimise food waste and help reduce the local area’s carbon footprint.

Contract Manager Kenny MacNiven, Account Manager Catriona Nicholson and Medical Science Liaison Janine Keating rolled up their sleeves and washed their hands for a productive day of food preparation in support of the community kitchen.

Among the team’s many tasks for the day, they cleaned and chopped a total of 26kg of reclaimed vegetables – food that would have otherwise gone to waste, all prepared and ready for cooking. They also weighed, portioned out, packaged and labelled 45 meals and 20 litres of soup – enough to feed 100 people collecting from local food banks.

Kenny and the team had a wonderful experience meeting the other volunteers at the Roundhouse, learning about everything they’re doing for the community and beyond, and were honoured to be able to contribute themselves.

While Signpost International is based in Dundee, the charity supports disadvantaged communities both locally and internationally, with a strong focus on nutrition, education and sustainability – values shared by Abbott. Through initiatives like the Roundhouse, cooking classes and activity days for local children, they help build a better understanding of healthy eating and practical food skills from an early age.
