PERATIVE
WHY HAVE I BEEN RECOMMENDED PERATIVE?
Perative is liquid nutrition that is given to patients as a tube feed. It is designed for people who cannot get all the nutrients they need by mouth, are at risk of malnutrition and have problems with their digestive system, such as sickness or diarrhoea.
If you are unable to eat safely, for example if you have difficulty swallowing, or you are able to eat, but can’t eat enough to meet your nutritional needs, then your healthcare professional (e.g. consultant or dietitian) may recommend Perative to help you get the nutrients you need.

WHAT IS PERATIVE?
Perative is a liquid nutrition feed designed for patients who are experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal (GI) intolerance and who might be at risk of malnutrition.
It has calories, protein as well as vitamins and minerals. The protein in Perative is partially broken down into smaller pieces (called peptides) so your body can digest it easier.
It can be used as your only source of nutrition, for example if you are unable to eat by mouth or can be used as a supplement in addition to the food you eat.
What is GI intolerance?
GI intolerance is where the digestive system cannot process some foods.1 Your digestive system is what breaks down foods into the nutrients you need to provide you with energy and keep you healthy.2 When this system struggles to breakdown the food you eat, it can make you feel quite unwell and can cause symptoms such as:1
- Diarrhoea
- Stomach pain
- A feeling of needing to be sick or being sick
- Wind
- Bloating
